Welcome to Sacred Heart Physical Education The Sacred Heart physical education program is designed for every child, from the physically gifted to the physically challenged. It is not an athletic program designed for students to specialize in one or more sports in order to compete with others of similar abilities. The objective of the program is to provide children of all abilities and interests a foundation of movement experiences that will promote a positive, active lifestyle. The goal for students in kindergarten through second grade is to introduce basic movement skills, work on these skills and master them by the end of the second grade. The skills will be incorporated into large group games, work stations, relay races and drills in order to accomplish the above goal. The goal for students in grades three through eight is to introduce skills, rules and regulations of activities, basic knowledge and strategy of activities, and implement them during the activities. The skills will be incorporated into large group games, work stations, relay races and individual, dual and team sports. Students in grades one through eight participate in the Presidential Physical Fitness challenge where they are tested for flexibility, strength, endurance, agility and can earn the presidential or national physical fitness award. We will be starting the fitness testing towards the end of February. |
